ClickPad 1.0a Patcher version 1.0 by Jon Bodner (jcbodner@students.wisc.edu)
based on a hack by Ken Hancock (kenh@vgi.com)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is this?
-------------
When Apple released the PowerBook 500's, it included an Apple TrackPad for a
pointing device. Unlike most other touch-sensitive pointing devices,
Apple's didn't support clicking by tapping on the TrackPad itself. Bruce
Odgberg at Microsoft wrote an extension for MacHack called ClickPad. It
enabled the user to click on the TrackPad of the then-new PowerBook
500-series.
However, ClickPad didn't work with the PowerBook 5300's. (The PowerBook 190's
and 2300c/100 have an improved TrackPad which is designed to support
clicking.)
On February 1, 1996, Ken Hancock posted the following message to
comp.sys.mac.portables:
>Subject: ClickPad for 5300! [Correction]
>Date: Thu, 1 Feb 1996 17:53:43 GMT
>
>I've successfully patched ClickPad for the 5300 and it's running fine!
>The problem (for your programmer-types) is that on the 500-series the
>trackpad registers itself as an ADB type of 0x04 but on the 5000-series
>it registers itself as an ADB type of 0x01 aka, a Mouse.
>
>To patch ClickPad to work on the 5300, open up ClickPad with ResEdit,
>Open up INIT 128 and at offset $72, change $7004 to $7001.
>Warning! This may do strange things if your 5300 has a mouse attached.

I've built a ResCompare patcher using Ken's instructions. He did the hard
work, so give him the credit.
What to do:
-----------
Download ClickPad from any Info-Mac mirror, and then run the "ClickPad 1.0a
Patcher" application. You should get a new copy of ClickPad, which is
version 1.0a. It's that simple!
What this costs:
----------------
Nothing. If you feel like it, send me or Ken a note of thanks.
Disclaimer:
-----------
I am releasing this patcher with no warranty as to its usability. If it
works, be happy. If it doesn't, be happy. If it causes your computer to
spew forth smoke from its insides, don't blame me.
